It took Erina Harris more than a decade to craft her debut collection, The Stag Head Spoke, which finally launched in Spring 2014 as one of the first books under the Buckrider Books imprint. With early success publishing individual poems, which won awards such as This Magazine's Great Literary Hunt and ARC's Editor's Choice, Erina felt she "owed poetry a certain debt of competence" and worked to hone her debut collection while undertaking residencies all over the world.
Not only has this hard work paid off in a stunningly original, highly sophisticated debut collection, but it's now attracting industry attention and accolades – most recently, a spot on the Canadian Authors Association's shortlist for its 2015 Poetry award.
Erina is in talented and venerable company on the list, which includes such CanLit stars as Tim Bowling, Anne-Marie MacDonald, and Miriam Toews.
The 2015 CAA Awards will be presented during a gala dinner at Lakehead University this Saturday. Tickets are still available.
Wolsak & Wynn congratulates all the nominees and wishes Erina the best of luck – we're rooting for you!
