In her new book, The Other 23 & a Half Hours: Or Everything You Wanted to Know that Your MFA Didn't Teach You, Catherine Owen looks at the many parts of writing life that aren't actually writing. The title is a take on Max Beerbohm's quote (as reported by poet Billy Collins), "The hardest thing about being a poet [is] knowing what to do with the other 23 and a half hours of the day."
In interviews with more than 50 of Canada's top contemporary poets, Owen discovers the myriad ways they've found to fill those hours and nurture the artistic communities that in turn feed their writing. With appendices on everything from revision and research to how to run a poetry series, The Other 23 & a Half Hours is a must-have guide for aspiring and working writers.
Join Catherine at Epic Books this Friday, October 23, for a reading and discussion. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.
