April 18, 2014
Crowds gathered at the Gladstone Hotel on Wednesday, April 16, for the launch of Buckrider Books and its first three offerings. Wolsak and Wynn Senior Editor Paul Vermeersch introduced the imprint, explaining the name's origin and his vision for the books it will produce. Then, the authors of the imprint's first three offerings – D.D. Miller, Erina Harris, and David James Brock – read from their books.
D.D. Miller read excerpts from a story in his debut collection, David Foster Wallace Ruined My Suicide and Other Stories.
Erina Harris treated us to a taste of The Stag Head Spoke, her first poetry collection over a decade in the writing.
Rounding out the evening was David James Brock, reading from his first poetry collection, Everyone is CO2.
All three charmed the crowd, who filled the hotel's ballroom to standing room only and included the likes of Ellen Seligman and Michael Ondaatje.
Wolsak and Wynn staff were kept busy all evening selling books and Buckrider Books t-shirts and distributing free buttons and even cookies emblazoned with the imprint's colophon.
The Buckrider Books crew headed to Waterloo for a second launch on Thursday, April 17.
Senior Editor Paul Vermeersch and the rest of the Wolsak and Wynn staff are busily working on the final stages of the imprint's fall books, as well as the upcoming Wolsak and Wynn spring and fall titles.
Thanks to everyone who came out to make the evening so successful!
