The International Festival of Authors (IFOA) presents Poetry NOW's 7th Annual Battle of the Bards this Wednesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. The event features 20 poets slugging it out with words to be named the winner, receiving an automatic invitation to next year's IFOA and an ad for their book in NOW magazine. The winner is determined by a panel of judges, which includes last year's winner and W&W author Catherine Graham.
This year's contenders include two more Wolsak & Wynn poets, Claire Caldwell and David James Brock, both of the Buckrider Books imprint. Claire's debut collection, Invasive Species, was released in Fall 2014 and includes the award-winning long poem "Osteogenesis," and David's collection, Everyone Is CO2, helped launched the imprint in Spring 2014.
Other participants include Jill Jorgensen, Peter Unwin, and Hamilton's own Ellen Jaffe.
Susan G. Cole, books and entertainment editor at NOW Magazine, plays host. Tickets are $10, but supporters, students, and youth under 25 get in for free.
