This poet has a remarkable naturalist's eye, a painterly eye. The sense of clarity, precise image and exactness of observation makes this mature collection a finely wrought tribute to her father. The title is perfect, for so many of the poems are little parables beginning in some observation of the natural world; parables that, like a boat, move the reader from one place to another. - Susan McCaslin
