Submissions

Submissions Guidelines:

We are a Canadian press dedicated to publishing clear, passionate Canadian voices. As such, we publish very few non-Canadians. However, we encourage Canadian authors of diverse backgrounds and communities to submit.

Our submission period runs from January 1st to March 31st of each year; submissions sent outside this period will be returned. As we receive a high volume of submissions during this time, please allow up to six months after the end of the submission period for a reply.

We encourage authors to send a letter of inquiry with a sample of the work. We do not consider unsolicited manuscripts. A list of your publication credits and publishing experience is helpful in providing context to your work. If we are interested, we will ask to see more, otherwise the sample is returned, provided that a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) or International Reply Coupon (IRC) accompanies the manuscript. If you would like confirmation of the receipt of your work, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for us to return to you.

We do not accept material that has been previously published in book form, including new editions of books previously published. Nor do we accept handwritten submissions. Such submissions will be returned unread.

If you are unfamiliar with our books, we recommend that you browse our website to see what authors and works we've published in the past, and read some of the sample excerpts posted.

Additional genre-specific guidelines follow below. Please clearly indicate the genre of your submission on the outer envelope.

Poetry Guidelines:
Along with your letter of inquiry, please include a sample of 15–20 poems, single-spaced on one-sided paper, with no more than one poem per page. Wolsak and Wynn publishes poetry in small print runs of 500 to 700, and reprints as necessary. Our poetry books vary in length from 70 to 100 pages.

Non-Fiction Guidelines:
Along with your letter of inquiry, please include a sample chapter and proposed table of contents, double-spaced on one-sided paper.

Fiction Guidelines:
Along with your letter of inquiry, please include a sample chapter and story synopsis, double-spaced on one-sided paper.

We hope these guidelines are useful to you.
